Intel reveals specifications of the second version of its
Thunderbolt
connection. It promises theoretical transmission speeds twice as fast
(
20 Gb / s).

While USB 3.0 can be generalized, Intel continues
to work with its partners on its Thunderbolt technology, widely used and
less widespread. This does not preclude the foundry floor to keep the
technology knew a time under the name Light Peak. |
|
The next version, 2.0, is expected to bring real innovations quantifiable in terms of transmission speed in particular. In theory, you should get a double speed compared to version 1.0 or 10 Gb / s to 20 Gb / s. Intel has already ensured that version 2.0 will be backward compatible Thunderbolt. Note that the theoretical maximum of USB 3.0 maxes out at 5 Gb / s.
The transfer speed is also consequences that will soon become very important: the cables will support the transfer and a video simulcast 4K (4096 by 2160 pixels) on the screen.

Remember that Apple is the main promoter of the
technology, since almost all these devices now have a Thunderbolt port.
Other manufacturers such as Western Digital or LaCie offer eg compatible hardware. |
