Intel offers GPS activities of ST-Ericsson
The microprocessor giant Intel has offered activity of a GPS ST-Ericsson stalled.
Failing to find a global buyer, ST-Ericsson seems to opt for a dismantling by division. This is what happened in mid-March and when Ericsson STMicroelectronics decided to split the group into two separate entities.
STMicroelectronics is that inherited the GPS part / Navigation called GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite Systems), which has just been sold to Intel for an undisclosed sum. The U.S. manufacturer also puts his hand on the assets, intellectual property and 130 employees spread between England (Daventry), India (Bangalore) and Singapore.
Intel further strengthens its patent portfolio
If the amount was not disclosed, the ST-Ericsson group explained that the proceeds from the sale combined with the exemption of certain restructuring would reduce its cash needs 90 million dollars. The competent authorities must validate the acquisition, which is expected to close by the end of August.
So this is the beginning of the end for ST-Ericsson, as announced in December 2012 with the announcement of the sale. Intel is a good way to strengthen its patent portfolio and technology. After a reorganization and the arrival of a new CEO, Brian Krzanich, Intel is slowly coming back in odor of sanctity among some manufacturers, including Samsung, which could change his tune in terms of processor b for example the Galaxy Tab.
