Amazon launches Kindle Fire HDX under Fire OS
Amazon unveiled its Kindle Fire tablet HDX available in two formats. The first has a 7-inch display that delivers a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels (323 ppi). The second is equipped with a screen of 8.9 inches with a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels (339 ppi). Both are suitable for reading in the sun with their brightest screens and a dynamic contrast control that increases the brightness of the shadow areas of images. The manufacturer has also made the addition of the standard sRGB color in its latest generation of tablets. Side storage, they are available with 16 or 64 GB of flash.
HDX Fire running on OS 3.0, known as code Mojito and based on Android 4.2 (not to be confused with Mozilla Firefox OS). They ship a quad-core Snapdragon processor 800 running at 2.2 GHz. They have 2 GB of RAM and support 4G LTE in addition to WiFi. Autonomy announced is 11 hours for the 7 inch version and 12 hours for the 8.9-inch version for a mixed-use. It reaches 17 hours (18 hours for the 8.9-inch version) when used for reading electronic books.
HDX 8.9 inches comes with a photo sensor 8 megapixel rear that can take pictures and videos, which is enriched by an LED illuminator. A custom application also supports shooting HDR (High Dynamic Range) and panoramas. These tablets can already be pre-ordered. The 7-inch version will be available on October 18 from 230 $ Excl VAT (16GB + WiFi) to 424 $ (64 GB + WiFi + 4G). The 8.9-inch model will be released on November 7 from 380 $ Excl VAT for the basic version and up to 594 $ Excl VAT the top model.
