Philips unveils an intelligent lighting system for traders
Philips has unveiled a new intelligent lighting technology that allows LED bulbs to turn into communication network. The main advantage that it does not require the trader to change his system to take advantage of these new opportunities.
Dutch manufacturer Philips with the new intelligent LED lighting system, that is to say capable of ensuring its primary function namely lighting, but also to connect to smartphones to help and advise its owners. Philips presents a prototype of this new technology at the Euroshop held in Dusseldorf until 20 February.
The operating principle is the following: the LED lighting system as a gate that can communicate its position to a pre-installed on a smartphone app. "The beauty of the system is that retailers do not have to invest in additional infrastructure to equip tags geo-positioning within their business," says Mr. van der Lugt Philips Lighting. "The lights themselves can provide this information by their presence throughout the store."
Therefore, if the stores of these systems are equipped, customers are informed in real time different commercial offers in the store and be guided on the shelves. Note that this technology comes directly compete with what Apple offers with iBeacon, whose success was slow to materialize even though major U.S. retailers such as Macy's and American Eagle currently conducting tests. Other companies are testing similar systems, including Bytelight, a sapling of the Boston area.
