More than one billion smartphones in the world
There are now more than one billion smartphones in use
around the world, according to a study released Wednesday by the firm Strategy
Analytics.
The bar was reached in the third quarter, said the study,
noting that it took 16 years industry smartphones to achieve this result since
the inception of the first device of its kind, the Nokia Communicator.
According to Strategy Analytics, the launch of the Apple
iPhone in 2007 was a catalyst for the market.
The firm estimated that there were 1.038 billion mobile
multitasking in the world in the third quarter.
Noting that only one in seven of the world has such a
device, Strategy Analytics expects the course of the second billion smartphones
will be reached in less than three years later in 2015.
