Smartphone dual screens from NEC

The dual-screen smartphone W Media, which is preparing to launch NEC and NTT DoCoM is an original proposal in a market dominated by Samsung and Apple.

NEC has found a way to double the size of the screen of a smartphone without doubling the size of the terminal: the Media W is indeed equipped with two 4.3 inch screens in the definition qHD (540 x 960 pixels) can operate independently or, once unfolded, form a single screen to function as a mini-table.

With a dual-core processor clocked at 1.5 GHz, the device runs on Android 4.1 and has 16 GB of memory and a slot for a microSD card to expand storage capacity. The device presented at the Mobile World Congress 2012 will be launched in April 2013 in Japan at the NTT DoCoM. The manufacturer did not specify whether the device will be available in other markets.

This year's International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), another dual-screen phone, the YotaPhone, which combines a high resolution color display on one side of the camera and a black and white screen electronic ink to back, won the award for best mobile device. Similarly, popSLATE was highly acclaimed by the media through a Case iPhone 5 to be launched in June. Not content to protect the unit, the product will, at the rear, a 4 inch screen electronic ink capable of displaying images and alerts.
