Android now fitted 3/4 of smartphones
Three quarters of the smartphones sold worldwide running Android in a Canalys study.
It sold 216,3 million smartphones worldwide in the first quarter of 2013 and 75,6% of them are running Android, according to the latest figures released by the study firm Canalys. This represents an increase of 47,9% in a year in a market increasingly dominated by Android and Samsung. Level operating system Android is still very large majority with 75,6% market share, far ahead of iOS, which only accounts for 17,3% of sales in the beginning of the year.
As for manufacturers, Samsung is leading the dance, with a little more than 70 million smartphones sold, against 37,4 million for Apple. Huawei, ZTE and LG rounded out the top five manufacturers, but no more than 5% market share. According to Canalys, it took a total of 308,7 million mobile connected devices (smartphones, tablets and laptops).
