The future of Volvo vehicle may park in a parking independently.
The automaker Volvo will soon unveil a concept car equipped with a self-parking. It is able to find a parking place and park there all alone with no one at the wheel. The car also interacts with other vehicles and pedestrians present in the parking area.
The idea is to free the driver from the tedious search for a place to park. This can leave the car at the entrance of the parking lot and recovered later in the same place. The driver uses a mobile phone application to enable self parking, and can then go quietly to his car. Using sensors, the vehicle mark a free place and goes there. The procedure works in the other direction when the driver comes to pick up his vehicle. In fact, the speed and braking of the car are adapted to the environment of the park.
Volvo already has experience in autonomous driving with his participation in the SARTRE (Safe Road Trains for the Environment) to design vehicle convoys moving automatically. According to Volvo safety expert Thomas Broberg, this type of technology is required to quickly integrate some models of the brand.
