The first 64-bit ARM servers soon at the end of 2013
The first servers with 64-bit ARM processors are expected to arrive later this year.
In recent months, Intel desperately to catch up on the equipment of mobile devices, where ARM has largely taken over. Intel kept the hunting is one of the servers, even if the British challenger has already announced several years (2010) it would launch a day on the servers.
Today is about to arrive: according to several sources, the first servers based on 64-bit ARM processors should arrive at the end of the year. U.S. Calxeda and Applied Micro unveiled a model at Computex, which is not a surprise. In contrast, the Asian area has seen several lesser-known manufacturers (Taiwan's Mitac International, for example) also announce future server products under ARM 64-bit. All these products should see the day end of 2013 and probably flood the market.
Besides the expansion of these processors do not let them insensitive manufacturers, since HP has already announced its Moonshot project, in which we find ARM processors, but Dell has already presented its Copper model. For now, the business interest is still limited, but it is likely to get bigger, as the software package will expand particular. ARM is attempting to play it, as the mobility, the energy consumption side.
The most likely scenario for the coming years seems that a certain balance of processor architectures in both products (PCs, tablets, smartphones, etc..).
