Intel ready to fabricate ARM chips
The Great alliance between the technology leader in chip manufacturing and the chief architect of most processors for mobile devices seems to be emerging. A first step has been found at the forum ARM developers.
The tone was set there a few weeks ago at the IDF conference in San Francisco: Intel wants to become a leading provider of solutions for mobile processors. Currently it is supplanted by the ARM architecture used in Qualcomm and nVidia designs that lead to SoC manufactured by TSMC in Asia generally. With today's announcement, Intel factories are on track to achieve them as chips of the most popular mobile.
The information comes not yet officially Intel but one of its partners, Altera. At the ARM Developers' Conference (ARM Techcon in Santa Clara), Altera said Intel soon integrate its SoC Stratix 10 (that must be released next year) chip 64-bit quad-core ARM A53. According to analyst Nathan Brookwood, taken by Forbes, "It's huge! Imagine the most powerful 64-bit and more advanced manufactured in the best factories Intel ARM processors. This tandem will be hard to beat! ".
And he continues in the same vein of rare enthusiasm it must be said among analysts in micro-electronic technology, "Intel will manufacture the Apple A7 processors, Qualcomm Snapdragon or Nvidia Tegra at the right price. Now the question is whether they are willing to pay the right price and support their direct competitor.
