Google Maps has lost much ground on Apple Plans
Despite an erratic start and unusual act of contrition on the part of Tim Cook, Apple Maps / Maps app has gained considerable ground at the expense of Google.
The latest figures released by ComScore institute concern the United States but it is probably possible to extrapolate, even though they show that users are not that sensitive to comments. Indeed, despite the launch totally missed the one riddled with inconsistencies and application bugs, which earned the door a few Apple executives, and an act of public contrition from Tim Cook, Apple Maps now has 35 million users in the United States against 58.7 million for the Google equivalent, a decrease of 23 million dollars for the latter compared to the same figures in September 2012.
On these 58.7 million, 6 million use Google Maps on the iPhone, including 2 million who can not switch to iOS 6 for hardware incompatibility issues. In fact, after being ejected from the Apple Store, Google Maps finally came but it did not have the desired effect on the audience.
Remember that Apple's decision to engage in mapping his own back in 2009 when Google refused to provide Apple with some features of its application to retain only the Android platform, and thus to provide a competitive advantage and also store data about users without Apple can benefit. Therefore, Apple has launched its own design tool based on existing data, particularly from TomTom or other suppliers.
