Samsung announces two new ARM Chromebook

Baptized Chromebook 2, the two new models of Samsung under the Google OS work with a chip Exynos 5 Octa on a design by ARM.

Samsung continues to focus hard on the Chromebook running Chrome OS from Google. If we find almost the same under the hood of these two versions, only the screen size varies: 11.6 and 13.3 inches. They will be available in April for $ 400 and 320 respectively.

 
Just technical side, there is a chip Samsung Exynos Octa 5, 8 cores  clocked at 1.9 GHz for the smallest model, 4GB RAM DDR3L-1600, a screen resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels and 16 GB Flash memory internally. Also rely on a USB 2.0 and one USB 3.0 port, an HDMI 1.4 port and an SD card reader.

 

The more muscular version with 13.3-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) display has the same processor, but clocked at 2.1 GHz. The other features remain the same. For both models, Samsung talks about more than 8 hours of battery life.

 

ARM design and leather design

 Note also that the processor, based on an original design ARM, take the bigLITLLE functionality. On 8 cores that integrates four Cortex-A15 are intended for resource-intensive applications, and the other 4 are Cortex-A7 for less intensive tasks. The distribution of tasks between cores allows in particular to improve the power consumption for greater autonomy, depending on usage.

This is the level that Chromebook design stand out from previous versions: each version will be entitled to a leatherette back, reminiscent of the Galaxy Note 3. The 11.6-inch version will be available in black or white, the 13.3-inch available only in gray.
