Microsoft presents Windows for cars
The BUILD conference is witnessing a deluge of news for Microsoft: after "Windows on devices", the publisher also partially lifted the veil on "Windows in the car."
If Apple chose the Geneva Motor Show to present CarPlay early March, to the automotive industry, Microsoft has concentrated all its new ads at its BUILD conference he spoke there of its Azure platform and open source, Windows 8.1 Update 1 and Windows Phone 8.1, "Windows on devices" for objects connected but lately "Windows in the car."
The aim of the publishers is now clear: enter cars, equipped with multimedia, connect to smartphones, etc. As we noted at the last Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the car becomes one of the first objects connected. It is therefore not surprising that all manufacturers care about. If Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz and Volvo have chosen to present CarPlay models compatible with Apple, Microsoft put on the car manufacturers that support the protocol Mirror Link, just like Citroen, Peugeot, Honda, Toyota or Volkswagen.
The aim is to link this content in the smartphone (music applications) and present on-board computer, touch screen car. What presented during Microsoft BUILD is still in the concept; you can also see in the video below how the software plant in the demonstration! The publisher has not yet spoken of sale date, or even formal partnership with a manufacturer. Moreover, it is not known whether Cortana, the wizard voice of Microsoft, will be part of Windows in the car, although it is likely that this is the case.
