Galaxy Gear, Samsung sold 500,000 connected watches in a total of 700,000
The companies of high-tech sector develop more and more connected objects. The firm Strategy Analytics has looked at sales of connected watches at the first quarter. A total of 700,000 smartwatchs, Samsung has delivered 500,000 (Galaxy Gear) units, representing a market share of 71%.
The research firm Strategy Analytics became interested in global sales of connected watches during the beginning of the year.
In the first quarter of 2014, 700,000 smart watches were sold. This represents an increase of 250% a year. Compared to the number of consumers worldwide, sales of these new devices are still low, but they are progressing.
Samsung is the leading manufacturer in the sector broadly. The group delivered 500,000 smartwatchs over the period, representing a market share of 71%. Compared to the same period in 2013, Samsung grew strongly by about 20% market share. It should be noted that only sales of the connected watch first generation Galaxy Gear, have been taken into account because the new ranges were sold from April. Beyond the good results already achieved by Samsung, these models could allow Samsung to further widen the gap with competitors.
Behind Samsung, we find Sony and Pebble, which totaled 80,000 sales or 11.4% market share, ahead of Motorola and Qualcomm, which sold 10,000 units or 1.4% of total.
