Connected devices allowed in flight

According to the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), passengers will soon be able to use their smartphones and tablets without the need to turn on airplane mode.

While use recommendations usually require Turn off electronic devices, or at least to pass in airplane mode, passengers will soon be able to stay connected during the different phases of flight: the limit was lifted on September 26 by EASA. "Passengers can use their portable electronic devices as in all other means of transport during the trip."

Before you can apply this measure, airlines must comply with a series of tests to determine the impact of 2G, 3G, 4G, Wi-Fi connections and Bluetooth on-board systems. Specifically, in the case of 2G / 3G / 4G connections, passengers will enjoy connections terrestrial networks so that they remain accessible to a certain altitude level. Wi-Fi in the aircraft remains meanwhile expensive to set up the device.
